Chase and other scouts from ABS Pack 25 participated in the "Bat Cave Clean and Learn" at Wheeler Wildlife Refuge's Cave Springs Cave on August 9, 2008. They picked up trash in the Cave Springs Cave area. Afterwards, they enjoyed a little watermelon break. Then, members of the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge staff were on-site to teach us about the wildlife found around Cave Springs Cave including the endangered Gray Bat.

In the late summer, over 40,000 endangered Gray Bats can be seen emerging from the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge’s Cave Springs Cave at twilight. At dusk, we went to the cave to watch thousands of bats emerge from the cave. It was an amazing sight. We had a great time and the boys also fulfilled some of their Cub Scout requirements toward their badges.
